The cash started to flow during an auction at Wednesday night’s pre-event party at Caesars Tahoe when comedian Sinbad combined forces with actor John O’Hurley (“Seinfeld’s” Mr. Peterman) and Cuban to auction Mavs VIP packages that included round-trip transportation on billionaire Cuban’s private jet, courtside seats, Mavs uniforms and all the attendant publicity. The evening’s take - $105,000 for the three auctions. Another $63,000 was raised with a similar auction Friday night, $7,675 was raised when Cuban, former Cowboys QB Troy Aikman, actor Dennis Quaid, former NFL QB Jim McMahon, television talk show host Maury Povich and Olympic hockey gold medallist Mike Eruzione participated in an autograph session at Tahoe’s Horizon Hotel.

Tournament officials contributed another $60,000 from prize money that was earmarked for players who want to retain their amateur status.

When all was said and done, Cuban matched the American Century Championship contribution of $390,000, bringing the total to $750,000.
