Grant Approvals in Excess of $100,000 to Eight Families of U.S. Soldiers

FORT RILEY, KAN. – Karin Payne, 45, of Fort Riley, Kan., has been selected as a grant recipient of the Fallen Patriot Fund, established on April 16 by the Mark Cuban Foundation, to help families of U.S. military personnel who were killed or seriously injured during Operation Iraqi Freedom.  Payne will receive $12,000 from the foundation to assist with raising her youngest son, Nicholas, 15, after her husband, Master Sgt. Payne was the intelligence noncommissioned officer in charge for the 2nd Battalion, 70th Armor Regiment of the 3rd Brigade, 1st Armored Division in Fort Riley, Kan.  He previously served as the first sergeant for Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 3rd Brigade, 1st Armored Division.

“I am very thankful for this grant,” said Payne.  “This will allow us to find housing off post and assist with paying off the cars and other bills.”
